From January 1 to March 16, 2026, Ecuador has experienced a severe winter storm that has resulted in 14 fatalities and severely affected 58,449 individuals, according to recent reports from the National Risk Management Secretariat. Over this period, 1,847 adverse events have been reported across all 24 provinces, impacting 191 cantons and 622 parishes. This has resulted in significant infrastructure damage, including 16,174 homes affected, with at least 106 completely destroyed, and damage to 42.11 kilometers of roadways. Additionally, 37 bridges have been impacted, with 30 destroyed, complicating connectivity in several areas of the country.
