Ecuador is experiencing a harsh winter, with a reported 43,534 people affected by recent severe weather conditions, including heavy rains and flooding. As of Tuesday afternoon, eight fatalities had been confirmed as a result of this winter season, which began at the start of 2026. Over this period, the country has witnessed 1,541 adverse events across 24 provinces, impacting 189 cantons and a total of 571 parishes.
