Active Use of On-Demand Transport in Kuldīga County

Residents of Alsunga are benefiting from an on-demand transport service by utilizing it for various needs, including medical appointments.

A new on-demand transport service in Alsunga, part of a pilot project under the "Interreg" program in the Kurzeme planning region, has been in operation for four months and serves about 1200 residents in the parish. This initiative has gained popularity as highlighted by local residents who frequently utilize this service for essential errands such as dental appointments. For instance, one passenger, Sanita Zignere, emphasized the convenience it offers by allowing parents to minimize wait times during children's medical visits by providing easy transportation to necessary appointments.

The transport service aims to improve accessibility in remote areas, where public transport options may be limited. Another passenger, Ilze Migoviča, noted that although she does not live in Alsunga, she relies on the service while attending to her late grandmother's home. She mentioned the difficulties faced in reaching other locations and how this on-demand transportation addressed her needs, indicating the importance of such services for residents in rural areas where access to shops and services is not readily available.

Overall, the pilot project's success in Alsunga could serve as a model for expanding similar on-demand transport solutions in other rural areas across the region, enhancing mobility and ensuring that residents have better access to essential services. With the program concluding in April, it will be crucial to assess its impact on the community and consider its continuation or expansion based on user feedback and demand.
