Riga Public Transport to Donate Seven Buses to Ukraine
Riga’s municipal transport company, Rīgas satiksme, has been authorized to donate seven buses to Ukraine to assist with transportation needs, particularly for the wounded.
The Financial and Administrative Affairs Committee of the Riga City Council has approved a donation of seven 'Solaris Urbino 12' buses from the municipal transport enterprise, Rīgas satiksme, to Ukraine. These buses are no longer needed for the company's operational activities and have no monetary balance, thereby enabling the company to contribute to humanitarian efforts. The decision to donate was communicated to the councilors, noting that Rīgas satiksme had previously donated 21 buses in two prior acts of charity to Ukraine.
The donated buses will also come equipped with essential supplies such as food, basic necessities, and spare parts for buses. According to Rīgas satiksme, the new batch of seven buses is specifically intended for transporting the wounded as part of Ukraine's ongoing humanitarian needs due to the ongoing conflict. The final decision regarding this donation is set to be passed during a Riga City Council meeting.
Last year, Rīgas satiksme reported a turnover of approximately 53.622 million euros, marking a 2.2% increase over the previous year, with the company's profits seeing a significant rise, which likely facilitates their ability to make such charitable donations. This initiative reflects the growing trend of municipalities aiding Ukraine amidst the war, showcasing international solidarity and support for humanitarian efforts in the region.
