VIDEO captures thieves 'surfing' on train to steal sugar and soy in the interior of SP

Thieves were caught on video 'surfing' on moving trains to steal sugar and soy meal in São Paulo state, leading to police action that resulted in four arrests.

In a shocking incident captured on video, criminals were seen 'surfing' on moving trains to steal valuable loads of sugar and soybean meal in the interior of São Paulo. The Civil Police launched an operation in Aguaí, São Paulo, where they arrested four individuals involved in this audacious theft. This theft operation specifically targeted commodities transported along routes connecting the interior of São Paulo to the Port of Santos, a key infrastructure for exporting goods.

Since the beginning of 2023, the frequency of such thefts has surged significantly, with estimated losses reaching R$ 13 million. The investigations led to the initiation of the Ouro Branco Operation, organized by the Division of Investigations into Thefts, Robberies, and Vehicle and Cargo Receptions (Divecar) of the Department of Criminal Investigations (Deic). The operation deployed 29 police officers who successfully uncovered the scale of the theft ring, emphasizing the organized nature of these crimes.

During the operation, authorities seized various items, including three cars, a truck, a motorcycle, bags used for transporting stolen goods, and two simulated firearms, signifying the preparedness of the criminals. The recent spike in these types of thefts raises concerns about security measures along freight routes in Brazil and highlights the need for increased vigilance to protect valuable commodities being transported across the country.
