Civil Police carry out operation against multi-million theft scheme of sugar and soy in trains in the interior of SP
The Civil Police of Brazil have launched an operation targeting a criminal ring involved in the theft of soy and sugar shipments from trains in São Paulo.
The Civil Police in Brazil conducted a significant operation named 'Ouro Branco' on the morning of Tuesday, the 17th, aimed at dismantling a gang specialized in stealing sugar and soy freight from trains in Aguaí, São Paulo. The operation was led by the Division of Investigations of Thefts, Robberies, and Receipts of Vehicles and Cargoes (Divecar) under the Criminal Investigation Department (Deic), which mobilized 29 police officers to execute four temporary arrest warrants and 11 search and seizure warrants across the region. During the operation, agents apprehended vehicles, bags used for transporting the stolen goods, and two replicas of firearms, along with other materials connected to the gang's activities.
The investigation reveals that the stolen cargo belonged to Ferrovia Centro-Atlântica S.A. (FCA/VLI), which transports goods from the interior of São Paulo to the Port of Santos for export. Criminals intercept the shipments along the railway route, indicating a well-organized operation targeting valuable commodities meant for international markets. By arresting three suspects and confiscating materials used in the theft operation, the police seek to disrupt a significant criminal enterprise that impacts the local economy and supply chain.
This crackdown highlights the ongoing issues of cargo theft in Brazil, particularly within the railway sector, which has faced challenges in securing its operations against criminal activities. The successful execution of the 'Ouro Branco' operation not only aims to reduce the incidence of such crimes but also serves as a warning to other potential offenders in the region.
