The first goal was scored at the not-yet-built Vilnius National Stadium
The construction of the Vilnius National Stadium is proceeding as planned, with the first goal scored as part of a promotion for the facility.
The Vilnius National Stadium is under construction, and the first goal has already been scored at the site, celebrating a significant milestone amidst the ongoing building process. Tadas Grincevičius, the head of the contracting company Naresta, reported that the first stage of construction installation was completed in just over three months and that the second phase is already underway, expected to finish by early summer. This efficient pace is made possible by the cooperation among all teams involved in the project, maintaining a steady and timely construction schedule.
Currently, a total of 1,670 out of over 5,000 precast concrete elements have been installed, including vital structures such as columns, walls, and slabs. The use of an additional crane allows for more rapid installation of concrete elements and enables simultaneous work in areas where primary structures are already in place. The proactive construction efforts aim to ensure that the first matches can take place at the stadium in 2027, ideally during more favorable weather conditions, as highlighted by the project manager during discussions with the representatives of Žalgiris.
With the stadium set to become a significant venue for high-profile events in Lithuania, the progress of its construction reflects the importance of collaboration and effective project management in large-scale infrastructure projects. The new national stadium is anticipated not only to host sports events but also to contribute to the cultural and recreational landscape of Vilnius, enhancing its status as a vibrant European capital.
