G. Nausėda: we believe that Ukraine will not accept capitulatory peace conditions
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that Ukraine must not accept capitulatory peace terms with Russia as it would embolden Russian aggression.
In a recent statement, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized the importance of Ukraine rejecting any peace terms that require capitulation. He indicated that such conditions would be unacceptable to the Ukrainian people and its leaders. Nausėda expressed Lithuania's unwavering support for Ukraine, asserting that the country must be backed in its struggle against Russian aggression and the pressures to concede to a potentially humiliating peace deal.
Nausėda articulated the dangers of allowing Russia any perceived victory through a capitulation. He pointed out that capitulation would only serve to strengthen Russia's resolve to continue its military aggressions, suggesting that it could encourage future actions against other targets. He underlined that neither the United States nor Ukraine's allies support a vision of Russia that exploits military success as a permission to act with impunity.
Moreover, Nausėda urged European nations to maintain pressure on Russia until conditions for peace favor Ukraine rather than capitulate to Russian demands. He suggested that it is critical for Europe to remain united and steadfast in supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and integrity. His declarations highlight the challenging geopolitical dynamics in the region and underscore the collective stance of European leaders towards Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
