Sudan: RSF Reportedly Seizes Bara in North Kordofan Advance
The Rapid Support Forces have taken control of the city of Bara in North Kordofan, marking a strategic advance in the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have reportedly retaken the strategic city of Bara in North Kordofan state, merely ten days after it was recaptured by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). This marks the RSF's third takeover of the city since the onset of conflict in April 2023, showcasing their persistent influence and capability in the region. The RSF has released videos purportedly showing their forces within the city, and their spokesperson has announced this move as part of a larger operational push to secure additional strongholds throughout Sudan.
In their recent assault, the RSF claimed to have caused significant casualties to the SAF and the El Bara Bin Malik Brigade. They announced the destruction of numerous vehicles and the acquisition of substantial amounts of military equipment. This capability highlights the RSF's growing military strength and resources, raising concerns about the evolving dynamics of the conflict, as these advances could further destabilize the region and challenge the authority of the SAF.
Following the RSF's takeover, reports indicated that SAF troops retreated towards El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan, which is located approximately 40 kilometers south of Bara. As the conflict continues to escalate, the geopolitical stability of Sudan remains fragile, with regional implications due to the city's strategic position as a corridor linking different parts of western Sudan, reinforcing the need for diplomatic interventions to address the deteriorating situation.
