G. Nausėda: If there is no agreement on the polygon, there will be no essence of the coalition
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda emphasized the importance of agreeing on the establishment of a military polygon for coalition unity.
In a recent podcast, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda spoke on the necessity of reaching an agreement on the establishment of a military polygon in Kapčiamiesčiai, asserting that without such unity among coalition partners, the core essence of the coalition would no longer exist. He recognized that coalition partners may have differing opinions on various internal political and economic issues; however, he stressed that the topics of security and military infrastructure must remain paramount in their discussions.
Nausėda articulated that differing views among coalition members are acceptable when it comes to subjects unrelated to security, but there must be a unified approach to national defense issues. He warned that if the coalition partners lose sight of their shared duties to enhance military capabilities and develop necessary infrastructure, the country could suffer serious consequences, particularly if attention shifts away from national priorities towards merely cooperating with allies.
Furthermore, Nausėda praised Lithuania's past achievements while underscoring that the focus on military readiness and infrastructure development is crucial for maintaining strong defense measures. He highlighted the need for a cohesive stance on security matters to ensure that the Lithuanian Armed Forces can operate effectively, emphasizing that neglecting domestic military concerns is not an acceptable option.
