G. Nausėda: We must ensure that military capabilities move across borders without bureaucratic obstacles

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda emphasizes the need for efficient military mobility across borders to strengthen NATO coordination amidst rising tensions.

In a recent address at the LTG Forum focused on military mobility and resilience, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda called for the implementation of a 'military Schengen' to allow military forces to move across borders without bureaucratic delays. He stated that the speed of decision-making at NATO levels is crucial for effectively responding to crises. The goal is to create conditions where military capabilities can be rapidly deployed to areas facing threats, ensuring member states can swiftly react to any emerging crisis.

Nausėda outlined two approaches to enhancing military readiness: the first involves pre-positioning military resources in countries that are vulnerable or near aggressive states, while the second focuses on ensuring quick transfer capabilities in case of an immediate crisis. He stressed that these measures are supported by significant European Union budget increases for military mobility, reflecting the attention and commitment from NATO allies towards Lithuania’s defense capability.

The emphasis on military mobility comes at a critical time as geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe remain high. Nausėda's remarks highlight Lithuania's proactive approach to national and regional security and the importance of international cooperation in defense strategies, positioning Lithuania as a key player in NATO's collective defense posture against potential aggressors.
