Police provide more information on the car that crashed into a window in Turku – driver reached for something in the back seat and foot slipped on the gas pedal
A car crash in Turku caused by a driver reaching for an object in the back seat resulted in damage to a store window but no injuries.
The police continue to investigate an incident that occurred on Monday evening on Eerikinkatu in Turku, where a personal vehicle crashed into the window of the Deli Market grocery store just before 6 PM. According to Katri Tammio, a communications expert with the Southwest Finland police, the case will be processed further for investigation on Tuesday. Preliminary reports suggest that the driver accidentally pressed the gas pedal while reaching for something in the back seat, which led to the accident.
Emergency services reported that the vehicle had been stationary at a bus stop prior to the incident, and while the collision did not involve significant speed, the window of the business was broken. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash. As the investigation continues, Tammio noted that the precise causes leading to the accident will be clarified during the preliminary inquiry.
A police report has been filed regarding the suspected gross endangerment of traffic safety. Though the situation did not result in personal injuries, it raises questions about driver distractions and the potential hazards they pose, emphasizing the need for awareness and caution while driving, especially in urban areas where pedestrians and properties are at risk.
