Electric car driver crashed into shop window in Turku city center
An electric car driver accidentally crashed into a store window in Turku but no one was harmed.
On Monday afternoon, an electric car driver drove into a store window on Eerikinkatu in the city center of Turku, Finland. According to Jari Peltoniemi, a duty fire chief from the Varsinais-Suomi rescue service, the incident did not pose a danger to the public. The driver, who was waiting at the scene, accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, causing the small electric vehicle to break the shop's window, although it did not enter the store itself.
The driver managed to reverse the car back to a bus stop without further incident, although the front bumper of the vehicle was damaged during the crash. The authorities advised that the car needed to be towed for inspection, especially since it was a fully electric car, to assess if the battery had sustained any damage. Peltoniemi emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of the vehicle's electric systems in case of an accident like this.
This incident highlights the potential hazards associated with electric vehicles, particularly in urban areas where pedestrians and storefronts are in close proximity. While there were no injuries reported, it underlines the need for drivers to remain vigilant and cautious, particularly when operating electric cars that may have different operational characteristics than conventional vehicles.
