Doctor Marija on the patient record system Cosmic: "I feel that the system is not finished"

Doctor Marija Kramar expresses criticism regarding the Cosmic patient record system used in Västernorrland, stating it is inefficient and lacks essential functions.

Doctor Marija Kramar, who works at the health center in Nyland, Kramfors, has voiced her concerns about the Cosmic healthcare support system implemented in the Västernorrland region. She notes that while earlier versions of Cosmic in places like Uppsala and Västmanland performed well, the current version in Västernorrland presents significant challenges. Notably, she mentions that irrelevant questions about patients’ diets, such as their consumption of legumes, appear in the patient view, overshadowing more critical medical queries that the system should prioritize.

Kramar describes the operational difficulties in navigating the Cosmic system, emphasizing the cumbersome processes that require excessive clicking and the inability to easily access important patient information. She criticizes the design of the interface, which includes long drop-down lists and mandatory fields that complicate the workflow rather than facilitate it. Particularly concerning for her is the lack of straightforward ways to determine abnormal test results or track changes in patients' medication history effectively.

The Cosmic system was introduced to the Västernorrland region a year ago, and Kramar’s experiences highlight the importance of user feedback in software deployment in healthcare settings. As a physician, she feels that the system needs significant improvement to truly serve its intended purpose of enhancing patient care rather than hindering it. Her comments suggest a wider need for healthcare software developers to create intuitive, user-friendly systems that prioritize the needs of medical professionals and their patients.
