TRE sends message to voters to change polling place in order to reduce lines in Belém
The Electoral Regional Court of Pará is sending WhatsApp messages to voters in Belém to encourage voluntary changes of polling places to avoid long queues on election day.
Starting Monday, the Electoral Regional Court of Pará (TRE do Pará) is taking measures to alleviate long waiting times for voters by sending WhatsApp messages to approximately 59,000 voters in the 97th electoral zone in Belém. This zone includes neighborhoods such as Tenoné, Ponta Grossa, Agulha, Águas Negras, Tapanã, and Pratinha. The initiative aims to facilitate a voluntary redistribution of voters from saturated polling locations to those with a lesser number of voters, thereby streamlining the voting process.
The decision to implement this pilot project arises from previous experiences where some voting locations in Belém were overwhelmed with long queues, causing frustration among citizens and potentially affecting voter turnout. By informing voters through direct communication channels like WhatsApp, the TRE hopes to encourage participation, minimize wait times, and ensure a smoother electoral process on voting day.
This innovative communication strategy underscores the TRE's commitment to enhancing the democratic process in Pará and addressing operational challenges by leveraging technology for better voter engagement. It reflects a growing trend among electoral bodies to adopt modern solutions to traditional voting challenges, ensuring that citizens can exercise their rights efficiently and without hindrance.
