‘In Los Ríos we walk towards peace and now with greater security’: says governor Galo Lara after the first day of the curfew
Governor Galo Lara reported that the first night of the curfew in Los Ríos province resulted in 19 arrests amid ongoing efforts to combat organized crime.
The first night of the newly implemented curfew in Los Ríos province led to the arrest of 19 individuals, as reported by Governor Galo Lara. The operations conducted by police and military forces were in response to the enforcement of the curfew, which prohibits movement from 11 PM to 5 AM. Among those detained, 18 were arrested for violating the mobility restrictions and one for drug possession.
Governor Lara emphasized the government's commitment to tackling violence and crime, stating, "Ecuador belongs to Ecuadorians, not to narcopoliticians. We will respond and act firmly," referring to the security strategy being deployed in the province. The curfew is part of a broader initiative by the National Government to address the escalating violence linked to organized crime in several coastal provinces, including Guayas, El Oro, and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas.
This nighttime restriction is seen as a critical measure in the ongoing fight against crime, illustrating the authorities' determination to enhance security amidst rising concerns. The deployment of over 75 military personnel aims to strengthen the efforts in maintaining order and reassurance for citizens as they adapt to the new curfew regulations.
