3rd Place Clarín SCA Prize for Students: 22 homes in Chacarita

A design project in Chacarita proposes a flexible architectural solution with 22 homes near a significant green space in Buenos Aires.

The project located in Chacarita, Buenos Aires, occupies a strategically chosen site adjacent to one of the city's major green spaces. It proposes a systemic architecture approach that allows the building to adapt to both its internal logic and the needs of its future inhabitants. The design begins with the conceptualization of the plot as a perfect square, divided into four quadrants, with specific emphasis on a site feature known as a 'tronera', which influences the overall design positively.

The quadrants of the land are utilized in an innovative way, with the area corresponding to the tronera being completely cleared to create a significant communal space within the development. This design choice allows for the built mass to occupy only the three remaining quadrants. Each of these buildable quadrants is initially conceptualized as a 'tablet', structured according to an internal 3x3 subgrid, where circulation elements are strategically placed in the center of this grid, enhancing accessibility and functionality within the residential space.

This architectural proposal not only addresses housing needs in a densely populated urban area but also integrates the concept of green spaces in residential design. The sensitive handling of the site’s natural features and the adaptive architectural elements suggest a thoughtful approach to addressing current urban challenges in Buenos Aires, potentially setting a precedent for future residential projects that prioritize sustainability and community within the urban fabric.
