First day of traffic enforcement at Unicamp results in 39 fines and one vehicle removal

The first day of traffic enforcement at Unicamp on Monday led to 39 fines and one vehicle removal as part of a new policing initiative.

On Monday, the first day of traffic enforcement inside the Unicamp campus resulted in at least 39 fines issued and one vehicle being towed, according to reports from the Emdec. This enforcement, which follows a month-long educational phase featuring 'moral fines,' is part of a new contract lasting 12 months that places two agents on campus from 7 AM to 7 PM. The initiative's goal is to enhance road safety, prevent accidents, and encourage compliance with traffic signals and parking regulations, particularly in designated spots for the elderly and disabled, which require physical or digital credentials.

In the morning alone, there were 40 advisories issued to drivers parking in violation of regulations, resulting in nine fines. These included six for parking on painted lines, two for parking in prohibited locations, and one for blocking a crosswalk. The afternoon saw an additional 30 violations documented, demonstrating the proactive approach being taken by university officials to manage traffic on campus effectively and ensure the safety of pedestrians and drivers alike.

The enforcement activities not only aim to deter traffic rule violations but also reflect a broader commitment by the University City towards fostering a safer environment for its considerable student population. By reinforcing traffic regulations and ensuring proper parking behaviors, the university hopes to mitigate accidents and create a more orderly campus for all users, signaling a shift towards more stringent traffic oversight in an area often facing congestion and disregard for parking rules.
