Emdec will monitor traffic and fine drivers inside the Unicamp campus in March
The Emdec will begin monitoring and enforcing traffic laws within the Unicamp campus, starting with a two-week educational phase in March.
The Municipal Development Company of Campinas (Emdec) has announced that it will start monitoring traffic within the Unicamp campus, located in the 'Zeferino Vaz' University City, specifically in the Barão Geraldo district. This initiative, revealed by the municipal government, aims to enhance traffic safety and reduce accidents on campus by ensuring compliance with Brazilian traffic laws. The program will initiate with an educational phase from March 2 to March 13, during which drivers will face 'moral fines' as a warning rather than actual monetary penalties.
The purpose of this regulation is to improve adherence to traffic signals and parking rules, particularly concerning designated spots for the elderly and disabled, which require proper credentials. The university's administration emphasizes that traffic regulations from the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB) will apply within the university environment, aiming to create a safer experience for both students and staff.
Beginning March 16, actual fines will be imposed according to the CTB, marking a shift from educational measures to actual enforcement. This proactive approach by Emdec and the University reflects a commitment to ensuring a safe academic setting, fostering a culture of respect for traffic regulations within the university community as a significant step in traffic management and safety enhancement at a busy educational institution.
