Lifeguards save 35 people from drowning in a single day on the coast of SP
Lifeguards in São Paulo rescued 63 people over the weekend, with 35 rescues occurring in just one day in Guarujá.
During a sunny weekend along the northern and southern beaches of São Paulo, lifeguards from the Marine Fire Brigade (GBMar) successfully rescued a total of 63 individuals from drowning incidents. The highest number of rescues occurred in Guarujá, where 35 people were saved in a single day. On Saturday, the city experienced the most incidents, highlighting the increased beachgoer activity due to favorable weather conditions.
The incident reports showed that 42 occurrences took place in the ocean over the weekend, with Saturday recording 12 incidents and 18 victims saved in Guarujá, followed by 4 incidents and 6 victims saved on Sunday. Other towns along the coast, including Bertioga, Itanhaém, São Vicente, Praia Grande, São Sebastião, and Ubatuba, also reported various rescues, indicating a regional pattern of swimming emergencies.
Importantly, the report noted that despite the high number of rescues, there were no recorded drownings over both days. The GBMar teams not only managed to provide crucial lifesaving responses but also emphasized the safety measures taken to prevent accidents by monitoring beach conditions closely during peak times for swimmers and sunbathers alike.
