Driver arrested after being caught driving under the influence twice in one hour in RS; VIDEO
A driver was arrested in Estância Velha, Brazil, after being caught driving under the influence on two separate occasions within an hour.
In Estância Velha, located in the Metropolitan Region of Porto Alegre, a driver found under the influence of alcohol was arrested early Sunday morning after being stopped by municipal guards. The first incident occurred around 12:30 AM when the driver was leaving a gas station. Although he was fined and his vehicle was left with a licensed driver, he was later spotted again driving the same vehicle less than an hour later.
Upon being ordered to stop by law enforcement, the driver attempted to flee, leading to his arrest near the BR-116 highway. In addition to a new traffic violation notice, the driver was taken to the local police station. The authorities set a bail of R$ 6,000, which he was unable to pay, resulting in his continued detention while authorities seized his vehicle as evidence.
This incident underscores the ongoing issue of impaired driving in Brazil, particularly in urban areas during weekends, leading to increased law enforcement vigilance. Efforts to diminish alcohol-related incidents on the roads are likely to continue as municipalities prioritize public safety and work to enforce stricter penalties for violations.
