On the evening of Monday, October 23, a 40-year-old truck driver was apprehended by the Federal Highway Police (PRF) in Porto Alegre, Brazil, for exhibiting signs of intoxication while driving on BR-290. The authorities discovered eight empty cans of beer in the driver's cabin during their inspection. Witnesses reported that the driver had been operating his vehicle on the road's shoulder before returning to the main traffic lane upon noticing the police approaching.

As the police attempted to stop him, the driver delayed getting out of his truck and initially claimed he was experiencing mechanical issues. However, the PRF officers noted prominent signs of intoxication, which prompted them to request a breathalyzer test that the driver ultimately refused. This incident raises serious concerns about road safety, especially given the potential hazards caused by impaired driving on busy highways.

The driver, who hails from Porto Alegre and had been traveling from Santa Rosa, indicated that he intended to take a rest in the city. He was subsequently taken to the Judicial Police and faces charges of driving under the influence. Moreover, his truck, which was registered in Farroupilha and had an expired tachograph, was impounded, highlighting ongoing issues with vehicle safety compliance in the region.
