New Heat Record in Lithuania on Sunday: Where It Was Hottest Is Announced
Lithuanian meteorologists announce a new temperature record for March 15, with temperatures reaching 16.2 °C in Tauragė.
Lithuanian meteorological service Meteo reported a record high temperature of 16.2 °C in Tauragė on March 15, breaking the previous record set exactly 35 years ago. The past record was 15.0 °C recorded in Kybartai in 1991. This recent record surpasses the previous one by 1.2 degrees, highlighting a clear trend in rising temperatures this year.
This recent temperature record marks the fifth highest temperature record set in Lithuania since the beginning of the year. To put this in perspective, there were a total of 23 temperature records set in 2025, 18 in 2024, 16 in 2023, and 13 in 2022, showcasing an increasing trend in extreme weather events. Additionally, statistics reveal that over the past five years, temperature records have been set in Lithuania eight times more frequently than cold records, indicating a shift in climate patterns.
As spring unfolds, other weather phenomena such as precipitation, fog, and icy conditions are also being reported across the country. Meteorologists continue to monitor these conditions closely, anticipating possible impacts on agriculture and daily life as temperatures remain unpredictable during the transitional season between winter and spring.
