Daughter caught talking to boyfriend on phone, father slit her throat with a sickle

A 23-year-old woman in Gorakhpur, India was murdered by her father after an argument about her talking to a boy on the phone.

In a tragic incident in the Pipraich area of Gorakhpur district, Uttar Pradesh, a 23-year-old woman named Neha was murdered by her father, Kamlesh Bharti. Initially, the family reported the death as a domestic accident, but police investigations revealed that the father had attacked Neha with a sickle following a heated argument. The incident occurred on March 13 when Neha's frequent phone conversations with a boy led to a confrontation between her and her father.

The police inquiry indicated that Kamlesh had previously warned Neha multiple times about her phone conversations. On the day of the incident, upon finding her once again talking to the boy, a fierce argument ensued between them. Kamlesh, in a fit of rage after striking Neha, lost control and fatally attacked her with the sickle he had in the room, resulting in her death.

This incident raises alarming concerns regarding domestic violence and patriarchal attitudes that lead to such extreme measures in India. The case has drawn attention not only for its brutal nature but also because it highlights the societal pressures on women and the dangers they face from family members over their personal choices. Following the investigation, the police arrested Kamlesh Bharti on Sunday, and his actions have been widely condemned by the public and officials alike.
