Dad, save me... said the daughter on the phone, but her family found her dead
A newly married woman in Bihar was allegedly murdered by her in-laws, raising concerns about dowry-related violence.
In a tragic incident in the village of Veerpur in Bihar's Vaishali district, a newlywed woman named Anu was reportedly strangled to death by her in-laws, sparking widespread outrage in the locality. Just hours before her death, Anu had contacted her father, informing him that she was being harassed by her in-laws and pleading for rescue. Her father advised her to wait until morning when he would come to help her, but the next day, upon the family's arrival in Veerpur, they discovered Anu's lifeless body lying on the family sofa, with all members of her in-laws' family missing from the scene.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the alleged dowry-related motives behind the murder. Anu's father, Rakesh Kumar, expressed his belief that his daughter had been subjected to continuous abuse over dowry demands, with a violent altercation occurring the evening prior to her death. Local police, led by Station Head Mukesh Kumar, initiated an investigation immediately after receiving notice of the murder. The body was taken for a postmortem examination in Hajipur, and efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
This incident illuminates the ongoing issues of dowry harassment and domestic violence that persist in various parts of India, raising awareness about the need for stricter enforcement of laws against such crimes. Authorities have vowed to pursue the case vigorously, reflecting the growing societal demand for justice in instances of dowry-related violence, which continues to afflict many families across the nation.
