Inmet issues alert for heavy rains for more than 200 cities in Bahia
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) has issued weather alerts for heavy rainfall across Bahia, indicating potential adverse conditions for over 200 municipalities.
The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in all cities of Bahia on Sunday morning, which is valid until 11:59 PM. This alert signifies that rainfall could reach up to 50 mm per day in various municipalities; however, the overall risk of power outages, falling tree branches, flooding, and electrical discharges is low. In addition, an orange alert, indicating an even higher risk of rain, has been activated, effective until the end of Sunday. During this period, some regions could experience rainfall of up to 100 mm per day, with increased chances of power outages and other hazards. Of the 417 municipalities in Bahia, 199 are under a yellow alert and 101 under an orange alert. 80 municipalities are listed in both alerts, particularly in the southern, extreme southern, southwestern, and western parts of the state. These alerts reflect ongoing weather patterns affecting Bahia, which could have implications for local infrastructure, agriculture, and emergency services. The state government may need to prepare for potential evacuations, emergency response measures, and communication with communities about safety precautions during this weather event.
