Hornig and Voborníková eliminated from the medal fight by mistakes at the shooting range
Czech biathletes Vítězslav Hornig and Tereza Voborníková finished seventh in the mixed relay at the World Cup in Otepää due to shooting errors in challenging windy conditions.
At the World Cup in Otepää, Czech biathletes Vítězslav Hornig and Tereza Voborníková achieved a seventh-place finish in the mixed relay. Throughout parts of the race, they were in contention for a medal, however, they faced difficulties with strong winds that resulted in three penalty laps overall. The duo had shown a strong potential early in the race, with Voborníková handing off in a promising fourth place after a clean standing shoot, but Hornig's subsequent shooting performance led to a significant increase in their time deficit.
The race was dominated by Norwegian biathletes Sturla Holm Laegreid and Karoline Offigstad Knotten, who finished well ahead of the competition, leading by over a minute and a half against Swedish athletes Sebastian Samuelsson and Hanna Öberg. In a surprising turn, the French team, considered favorites for the event, faced disqualification due to Émilien Jacquelin using four extra bullets during his stand-shoot segment, which eliminated them from contention altogether.
This event marks a challenging finish to the season for the Czech team, who had opted for their strongest pairing of Hornig and Voborníková for the final mixed relay of the season. Despite some bad luck and errors, they managed to maintain a competitive presence early in the race, reflecting their potential as they move into preparation for future competitions.
