Eyes on the Oscar, young people prepare for a career in audiovisual with free courses in Rio

Young students in Rio de Janeiro are participating in free audiovisual courses, aiming to build careers in the film industry inspired by the upcoming Oscar ceremony.

As the world eagerly anticipates the Oscar ceremony on March 15, aspiring filmmakers from Firjan Senai/Sesi in Rio de Janeiro are cultivating their dreams of competing for awards in the future. Aged between 16 and 18, these students are enrolled in a free audiovisual education program that covers essential skills such as camera operation, sound, editing, animation, screenwriting, production, and post-production. Instructors emphasize that this training is crucial to address the industry's shortage of qualified professionals.

The program has already seen former students making strides in the film sector, such as producer Carol Salles and cinema student Pedro Bozan, both of whom credit the free training as pivotal for launching their careers. Carol, a resident of Brás de Pina in North Zone Rio, reflects on her experience, stating that the availability of free courses greatly facilitated her journey. She benefited from training in photography and camera operation, which helped her to learn and develop all the processes necessary to thrive in the industry, including working on the film 'Ainda Estou Aqui'.

The initiative serves not only to boost individual careers but also aims to strengthen the local film workforce, addressing the skills gap that many segments of the audiovisual market face. By fostering young talent, programs like this could potentially lead to a new wave of competitive Rio-based productions in future film festivals and award ceremonies, showcasing the creativity and skill of the next generation of filmmakers from Brazil.
