Group urges better documentation of peacebuilding efforts in Nigeria
A group in Nigeria is calling for improved documentation of peacebuilding initiatives to better inform policy and strategic planning.
Felix Allison, Executive Director of the Conflict Research Network West Africa (CORN), has emphasized the necessity for enhanced documentation of peacebuilding efforts in Nigeria. This call came during a high-level User Engagement Dialogue and Peace Actors Networking Forum, which was part of the Nigeria Peace Web digital peace data platform initiative. Allison pointed out that despite the extensive documentation of Nigeria's conflict landscape, the country's peace initiatives remain largely overlooked in research, policy debates, and public discourse.
The Nigeria Peace Web project aims to consolidate and showcase peacebuilding efforts, making them more visible and accessible to policy-makers and the public. This initiative is supported by the UK Government's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office under the Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria Programme. Allison's statement highlights the urgent need to shift focus towards integrating peacebuilding efforts into national discussions, which can lead to more comprehensive policies that address both conflict and peace.
By advocating for a more robust documentation process, CORN aims to create a framework that not only acknowledges existing peace initiatives but also promotes strategic planning and development in conflict resolution. The involvement of various stakeholders, as demonstrated by the Successfully convened forum, illustrates a collective effort to prioritize peace in Nigeriaβs complex socio-political environment, thereby fostering resilience in the communities affected by conflict.
