Announcement of Kerala Assembly Election Date, Voting to be Held in One Phase

The Election Commission of India has announced that voting for the Kerala Assembly will occur in one phase on April 9, with results declared on May 4.

The Election Commission of India has confirmed that the Kerala Assembly elections will take place in a single phase on April 9, with the results expected to be announced on May 4. Kerala has a total of 140 seats, and the current ruling government is led by the Left Democratic Front (LDF). Historically, Kerala has seen a trend of power shifts in every election, but this pattern was interrupted in 2021 when the LDF won decisively.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the LDF is making a strong bid to secure a third consecutive term in office. The opposition, led by the United Democratic Front (UDF) headed by Congress, is working towards a comeback, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is also hoping to gain ground in this election, having previously failed to win any seats.

In the previous elections, the LDF won 97 out of 140 seats, while the UDF secured 41. Other parties won two seats, and the BJP's National Democratic Alliance (NDA) did not manage to win any, emphasizing the competitive political landscape in Kerala as parties gear up for the upcoming elections.
