Robert Virves, driving a Å koda with co-driver Jakko Viilo, achieved a significant victory at the WRC2 category of the World Rally Championship (WRC) event held in Kenya. At just 25 years old, this victory marks Virves' second win in the WRC2 class and his sixth podium finish overall. His first triumph in this category came back in 2025 at the Rally Estonia, and he has since placed third in Finland and Saudi Arabia, as well as second in Greece and another third in Poland in 2024.
Remarkably, Virves managed to secure the win without winning any individual speed tests during the Kenya rally. His consistent performance and the ability to avoid technical difficulties contributed to his success, highlighting the importance of reliability in rally racing. After crossing the finish line, an elated Virves expressed his surprise at the win, acknowledging initial doubts about competing in Kenya but ultimately embracing the authentic Safari rally experience. The Kenya rally consisted of a planned 16 speed tests over the first three days, but the WRC2 competitors completed 13 tests.
