Residents who have not regained their land in cities are proposed to be allowed to choose an equivalent plot
Lithuanian lawmakers propose a new provision to offer residents who haven't regained their land an option for an equivalent plot for individual construction.
In Lithuania, a legislative proposal has been put forth by members of the Seimas, including Česlavas Olševskis, Rita Tamašunienė, and Jaroslavas Narkevičius, that aims to address the issue of land ownership for residents who have not yet regained their property rights. The proposal suggests that if decisions regarding ownership rights have not been made or have been made but not implemented by a specified deadline of December 31, 2023, these individuals will be able to request an equivalent land plot free of charge within the same municipality for individual construction purposes. This initiative is seen as a way to rectify property ownership injustices faced by former landowners.
