Proposing to prohibit some Russian and Belarusian citizens from acquiring real estate in Lithuania

New legislative amendments in Lithuania aim to restrict Russian and Belarusian citizens from purchasing real estate due to their countries' roles in the Ukrainian conflict.

A group of 15 members from the opposition party, Homeland Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD), has proposed amendments to the Law on the Establishment of Restrictive Measures due to Military Aggression Against Ukraine, aimed at restricting real estate acquisitions by Russian and Belarusian citizens in Lithuania. The proposal was presented by the party's deputy leader Mindaugas Lingė and MP Dalia Asanavičiūtė-Gružauskienė during a press conference on February 24. The move is seen as necessary in light of Belarus's support for Russia's military actions against Ukraine and its involvement in hybrid attacks against Lithuania and other EU and NATO countries.
