Bolt will also start assessing the riding style of scooter users
Bolt is set to assess the riding style of electric scooter users and offer discounts for users who can prove they wore a helmet during their ride.
Bolt, the popular ride-sharing service, is expanding its safety measures by implementing a new system to evaluate the riding style of electric scooter users. This initiative follows the company's previous announcement in August that it would begin monitoring the driving behavior of its car drivers. The upcoming feature, which will assign a score ranging from 1 to 100 to scooter rides, aims to incentivize safer riding habits among users.
According to Karl Apsolon, the head of Bolt's electric scooter division, while the assessment for scooters will differ from that of cars due to the lack of speed limits on electric scooters, it will still utilize a calculation system to monitor various safety parameters. Scooter users will be evaluated based on factors such as ride smoothness, sudden braking, and avoidance of hazardous actions like skidding or crashing. Furthermore, the system will reward positive behaviors, such as properly parking the scooter upright and safely navigating without any accidents.
This new development reflects Bolt's commitment to promoting safer mobility options in urban areas. By encouraging responsible riding habits, the company hopes to reduce accidents and improve the overall safety of electric scooters, which have seen a rapid rise in popularity. In line with this initiative, discounts will be offered to users who correctly demonstrate helmet use, thereby reinforcing the importance of safety gear while riding scooters.
