Electric scooter season begins in Vilnius: important rule reminder

The electric scooter and bike season has started in Vilnius with a reminder about helmet regulations for riders.

In Vilnius, the electric scooter and bicycle season has officially commenced, with city officials announcing the establishment of about 800 designated parking spots for micro-mobility vehicles in densely populated areas and near major attractions. According to data from the mobility platform 'Judu', 18 out of 21 municipal districts have implemented these parking solutions, clearly marked with unique signage to assist users of sharing services such as 'Bolt' and 'Ride'.

A key aspect of this year’s regulations is the enforcement of helmet use for electric scooter riders. The local authorities have emphasized that this requirement must be adhered to, aiming to enhance safety for both riders and pedestrians. The regulations also stipulate that individuals aged 16 and older can ride on bicycle lanes, curbs, and roadways, while those aged 14 must complete a training course to qualify for legal use of these vehicles, further reinforcing the importance of safety education.

As Vilnius embraces the increase in micro-mobility options, the strategic placement of parking spots not only supports smoother traffic flows but also addresses the growing demand for sustainable transportation alternatives. The implementation of these safety rules, alongside the availability of designated parking, reflects the city’s commitment to promoting responsible and safe usage of electric scooters and bicycles as a convenient urban transport solution.
