On Friday, three men tragically lost their lives, and two others sustained injuries following an accident with a truck laden with eucalyptus logs on the LMG-601 highway in Mata Verde, located in the Vale do Jequitinhonha region of Brazil. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the truck blocking the road with its cargo scattered across the area. Among the deceased were men aged 20 and 34, who died at the scene under the fallen logs, while a 19-year-old, who was rescued by bystanders, succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving at the local health post.
The truck, which was transporting approximately 15 tons of eucalyptus, had left Cândido Sales en route to a farm in Mata Verde. The driver and one passenger were taken to a hospital in Almenara by emergency services from the municipality. The circumstances of the accident are under investigation, and the owner of the truck was present at the site to provide details about the transport and its purpose.
Authorities from the Civil Police were called to the scene to conduct a forensic examination and subsequently released the bodies for burial. The accident has drawn attention to the safety conditions on the roads in this region, particularly concerning heavy transport vehicles, prompting calls for enhanced safety measures to prevent such devastating accidents in the future.
