Man identified as leader of Comando Vermelho arrested in Porto Velho

Gustavo de Paulo, suspected leader of the Comando Vermelho, was arrested in Porto Velho after being on the run from justice.

Gustavo de Paulo, also known as "Kanon," was apprehended in the East Zone of Porto Velho, Brazil, where he was hiding after evading law enforcement. According to the Military Police, he was identified after investigations revealed he was staying in a monitored residence. Officers confirmed his identity during an approach and found that there was an outstanding arrest warrant against him.

De Paulo was reportedly one of the primary targets of the latest phase of Operation Audacity, launched in February 2024, which aims to weaken the influence of criminal organizations such as Comando Vermelho in Rondônia and other states both inside and outside of prisons. This operation highlights ongoing efforts by the authorities to combat organized crime in the region and demonstrate a commitment to public safety.

Following his arrest, Gustavo de Paulo was taken to the Legal Medical Institute for processing. The arrest not only supports local law enforcement efforts but also serves as a significant move against the Comando Vermelho, which remains a notorious crime faction in Brazil. The repercussions of this arrest may extend to further actions against organized crime in Brazil, as authorities continue to build cases against various criminal leaders and their networks.
