Civil Police arrest head of Comando Vermelho in São Gonçalo
The Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro arrested Hilário Gabriel dos Santos Rangel, known as Biel do Feijão, a key figure in the Comando Vermelho criminal organization.
In a significant police operation on the night of December 6, the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro apprehended Hilário Gabriel dos Santos Rangel, commonly referred to as Biel do Feijão. Biel is recognized as the head of the Complexo do Salgueiro in São Gonçalo and is believed to be a close associate of Antônio Ilário Ferreira, known as Rabicó, another prominent leader within the notorious Comando Vermelho gang. Alongside Biel, two men identified as his security personnel were also taken into custody during the operation.
The law enforcement agency executed the arrest following a series of intelligence exchanges that allowed agents to closely monitor Biel's movements leading up to the apprehension. The arrest took place in Gradim, where police encountered resistance and a confrontation ensued, resulting in the seizure of two firearms. The Civil Police attributed an increase in vehicle thefts in the region to Biel's criminal activities, indicating his involvement in orchestrating these crimes.
This arrest is a part of broader efforts by the Civil Police to combat organized crime in Rio de Janeiro, especially the activities of groups like Comando Vermelho, which have a significant presence in the state's criminal landscape. The implications of Biel's capture extend beyond individual accountability, potentially affecting the operations of the gang and contributing to ongoing law enforcement initiatives aimed at reducing violence and crime in communities plagued by gang activity.
