Two men were arrested and a cache of firearms and over 100 rounds of ammunition was seized in a rural area of Igarapé-Miri, Brazil.
A joint operation by the Civil Police and Military Police resulted in the arrest of two men and the seizure of weapons and ammunition in the rural area of Igarapé-Miri, Pará, on Friday, the 13th. This operation took place near the Rio Furo do Seco while police were executing temporary arrest warrants against the suspects, conducting simultaneous searches of residences where they were believed to be located.
During the operation, law enforcement officials discovered one of the suspects inside a property where they found firearms and ammunition that lacked proper registration or legal provenance. The second suspect was also found in his home, and as he became aware of the police presence, he reportedly threw a loaded revolver with an apparently removed serial number out of the window. Additional ammunition and weapon accessories were also recovered from his residence.
In total, the authorities confiscated a rifle, a revolver, a pistol, a shotgun, and 115 rounds of ammunition of various calibers. This incident highlights ongoing issues related to illegal arms trafficking and the presence of armed individuals in rural regions of Brazil, raising concerns for public safety and the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing such challenges.
