Man arrested with gun and ammunition in Itatiaia

A 27-year-old man was arrested in Itatiaia, Brazil, during a police operation aimed at combating arms trafficking, with weapons and ammunition confiscated from his vehicle.

In a significant enforcement action, a 27-year-old man was arrested in Itatiaia, Brazil, during a police operation known as 'Operação Desarme', which targets illegal arms trafficking. The arrest occurred on the night of Tuesday, the 17th, in the Vila Esperança neighborhood when police stopped a suspicious vehicle. During the inspection of the car, officers discovered a loaded pistol along with 11 rounds of ammunition, a magazine, and various other items typically associated with criminal activity, including camouflaged clothing and transmitting radios.

The police also seized a credit card machine and multiple cell phones, which raises questions about the suspect's potential involvement in a larger network of illegal activity. When interrogated, the suspect claimed that the firearm had been given to him by his grandfather at the age of 14, yet he could not provide any legal documentation to validate ownership of the weapon. This detail could be critical, as possession of an unregistered firearm is a serious offense under Brazilian law.

Following the arrest, both the suspect and the confiscated items were taken to the Itatiaia police station for further processing. This operation underscores the ongoing efforts law enforcement agencies in Brazil are making to combat arms trafficking and ensure public safety in regions plagued by violence and criminal organizations.
