Estere Volfa Takes 13th Place in the World Cup Pursuit
Latvian biathlete Estere Volfa finished in 13th place in the World Cup Pursuit event held in Otepää.
In the eighth stage of the World Cup series, Latvian biathlete Estere Volfa achieved a commendable 13th place in the 10-kilometer pursuit event in Otepää. The competition saw Italy's Lisa Vitoci clinch victory after taking the lead following the third shooting round. Notably, Vitoci completed the course in 33 minutes and 33.7 seconds, with Finland's Suvi Minkinena finishing in second place, just 26.2 seconds behind after both faced one penalty each on the shooting range.
Volfa had previously secured her career-best World Cup finish with a ninth place in the sprint event, showing her growth in the competition. In the pursuit race, she initially skied cautiously, making only one mistake during her final prone shot, but she recovered well in the final standing shoot, demonstrating precision despite facing windy conditions that forced her to pause. Moreover, she showcased strength in her final lap, recording the third-fastest skiing time, even while battling an illness earlier in the week.
This performance is a significant boost for Volfa, highlighting her resilience and talent as she competes among the best in the world. Her ability to perform under pressure, alongside other competitors such as Baiba Bendika who finished 39th, includes further elevation of the stature of Latvian athletes in international biathlon events. With continued dedication, Volfa's trajectory could see her climbing higher in future competitions, enhancing the visibility of biathlon in Latvia.
