Rabies vaccination for dogs and cats takes place this weekend in Rio Branco
Free rabies vaccination for dogs and cats will be conducted this weekend in Rio Branco to mark National Animal Day.
In Rio Branco, a free rabies vaccination drive for dogs and cats is scheduled for this weekend, in recognition of National Animal Day celebrated on Saturday, October 14. The vaccination will be held at two locations in the capital: on Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM at Mercale on Avenida CearΓ‘, and on Sunday from 3 PM to 6 PM at Via Verde Shopping. This initiative is aimed at increasing vaccination coverage against rabies, a deadly viral disease that can be transmitted from animals to humans.
The vaccination campaign, organized by the Municipal Health Secretariat of Rio Branco (Semsa), emphasizes the importance of vaccinating pets as a primary strategy to halt the spread of the rabies virus. The municipality highlights that vaccinating dogs and cats significantly reduces the risk of transmission to humans, making it vital for public health. Pets are eligible for the vaccination once they reach three months of age, providing an opportunity for responsible pet ownership and community health awareness.
As rabies remains one of the most lethal zoonotic diseases, public initiatives like these are crucial in promoting animal health and preventing outbreaks that can lead to severe human health risks. Encouraging the public to participate in these vaccination drives not only protects pets but also safeguards communities from potential rabies transmission.
