Rio Branco administers 800 doses of meningitis vaccines on vaccination 'D' day
Rio Branco, Brazil, successfully administered 800 doses of meningitis vaccines during a special vaccination event following recent cases of meningitis among youths.
In response to nine cases of meningitis reported in 2025 among children and adolescents in Rio Branco, Brazil, the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa) organized a special vaccination event known as 'D' Day. This initiative took place on Saturday, the 28th, where a total of 800 doses of the meningitis vaccine were administered alongside vaccines for influenza and HPV, contributing to over a thousand doses given during the event.
The vaccination campaign targeted children aged 3, 5, and 12 months, and adolescents between 11 and 19 years, in accordance with the National Vaccination Calendar guidelines. The aim was to maintain a vaccination coverage rate of over 90% in the capital city of Acre state. Notably, there have been no records of meningitis cases in the city thus far this year.
Health officials emphasized the importance of these vaccination efforts in preventing outbreaks and protecting the community's health, especially following the recent cases.
