With nine cases of meningitis in 2025, Rio Branco has 'D' Day vaccination against the disease; see points
Rio Branco is holding a vaccination day for meningitis amidst a reported nine cases this year, aiming to sustain high vaccination coverage.
In 2025, Rio Branco registered nine cases of meningitis among children and adolescents, fortunately without any fatalities. In response to the uptick in cases, the Municipal Health Secretariat (Semsa) of Rio Branco has organized a special vaccination day on Saturday, aiming to maintain vaccination coverage rates above 90%. The event is part of a broader campaign to ensure community health and mitigate the risk of further infections.
To participate in the vaccination drive, residents are encouraged to bring personal identification documents and, if available, their vaccination cards. The target demographic for this vaccination effort includes children aged 3, 5, and 12 months, as well as adolescents between the ages of 11 and 19, aligning with the National Vaccination Calendar's guidelines. This initiative not only focuses on combating meningitis but also includes the administration of influenza vaccines at the same time.
Vaccination services will be available at four Primary Care Reference Units (URAPs) from 7 AM to 5 PM and at Via Verde Shopping from 2 PM to 10 PM. This coordinated effort reflects an active public health strategy to prevent the spread of meningitis in the community, highlighting the authorities' commitment to ensuring public health safety and vaccination accessibility for the local population.
