Ambato seeks clean energy: Fairis and the Regional Electric Company Centro Norte promote self-generation with solar panels

Fairis has inaugurated a 2.2-megawatt solar plant in Ambato, Ecuador, aimed at promoting self-generated clean energy for local homes and businesses.

Ambato, located in Ecuador, has initiated efforts towards clean energy by taking advantage of its geographical position, which offers ample solar radiation throughout the year. Fairis, a company in the northern part of Ambato, recently opened a significant solar plant focused on self-generating electricity not only for residential use but also for local industries. This development comes in light of past electricity rationing experienced in 2024, highlighting the necessity for reliable energy sources.

The newly inaugurated photovoltaic plant, recognized as the largest in the central Sierra region, boasts an impressive capacity of 2.2 megawatts achieved through the installation of 3,700 solar panels spread over a space of 10,600 square meters. Marlon Salazar, the Plant Manager, emphasized that this facility is projected to generate about 3.1 million kilowatt-hours annually, which accounts for 42% of self-generated electricity, thereby significantly contributing to energy sustainability in the region.

The focus on adopting solar energy not only addresses the immediate energy needs of Ambato but also positions the city as a leader in clean energy initiatives within Ecuador. This move aligns with global trends of increasing reliance on renewable energy sources, promoting economic growth while lowering carbon emissions. As local businesses and homes tap into this sustainable energy option, it could pave the way for similar projects throughout the country, fostering a more environmentally friendly energy landscape in Ecuador and potentially influencing national energy policies.
