Anambra arrests native doctor for unlawful practices

A native doctor in Anambra State, Nigeria, was arrested for allegedly violating local laws by luring young people with promises of quick wealth.

John Ezenagu, a native doctor based in Nnewi, Anambra State, has been arrested by the state government’s security outfit, Agunechemba, for allegedly violating the Homeland Security Law. Ezenagu, who is known by the moniker 'Mmou Mmili Afulu Anya', was accused of deceiving young individuals into believing they could achieve quick wealth by bathing in a stream located behind his residence. This claim drew the attention of authorities, prompting an investigation and subsequent search of his property on Friday.

During a public parade of Ezenagu following his arrest, Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, highlighted the importance of upholding local laws aimed at protecting citizens from fraudulent practices. Emeakayi noted that Ezenagu had previously been warned about his activities but chose to disregard the advice, continuing to engage in practices deemed harmful. The authorities emphasized that ensuring community security is paramount, and the continued actions of individuals like Ezenagu pose a risk to the welfare of young people.

Following this incident, Ezenagu will be subjected to thorough investigative processes, after which he may face charges if found guilty of the allegations. The case underscores a broader effort by Anambra State's government to crack down on unlawful practices that exploit vulnerable individuals, ensuring that community security laws are enforced and that offenders are prosecuted accordingly.
