Police arrest 52-year-old suspect for kidnapping, murder in Anambra

A 52-year-old man has been arrested in Anambra, Nigeria for his alleged involvement in kidnapping, murder, and serious injuries to six victims.

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old suspect named Ndibe Onyenwe in connection with a series of violent crimes including conspiracy to kidnap, murder, and serious bodily harm. The arrest occurred following an investigation into an ambush that took place in Urum, Awka North LGA, where six individuals were reported to have sustained grievous gunshot wounds. Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga indicated that the suspect was handed over to the police by the Nigerian Army operatives after their joint operation led to the suspect's capture.

Ikenga detailed that Onyenwe is believed to have conspired with another named individual, Felix Godwin, and others who remain at large to orchestrate a planned ambush on unsuspecting members of the public. This incident raises concerns regarding the rising violence in the region and the potential for organized crime networks to exploit vulnerable populations. The police's proactive response showcases efforts to combat such criminal activities and ensure community safety.

As investigations continue, the police are calling for assistance from the public in providing information about other suspects involved in the ambush. Such community engagement is crucial for apprehending those who are still at large and for fostering a safe environment in local areas like Urum, which have been plagued by similar violent incidents in the past. The response from both police and military forces indicates a coordinated effort to enhance security in Anambra State.
