On the first day of the 48th Asahi Amateur Shogi Championship held in Minato, Tokyo, Chika Oshiro, a 23-year-old player, made history by becoming the first woman to register two wins in the tournament's history. Her performance allowed her to enter the top eight, thereby earning her the opportunity to participate in the professional-amateur match at the 20th Asahi Cup Shogi Open. This moment is particularly significant as it marks the first time a female amateur will take part in an official shogi competition.
Chika, who previously competed two years ago and faced an early exit, expressed her astonishment and joy at securing two victories this time around, emphasizing that her initial goal was simply to win one match.
