Ghana: Rehabilitation of Pantang-Abokobi Road Begins

Rehabilitation work has commenced on the Pantang Junction-Abokobi road in Greater Accra to improve its condition and prevent flooding.

Rehabilitation work has officially commenced on the Pantang Junction-Abokobi road located in the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipality of the Greater Accra Region. This project aims to elevate and widen the road, improve drainage systems to address the issues of flooding, replace certain culverts, construct new U-drains, and reseal and resurface the entire 8.6-kilometer stretch with bitumen. The initiative is seen as vital for enhancing traffic flow and safety in the area.

Awerco Construction Limited has been awarded the contract for this project, which is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete. The Municipal Chief Executive, Alhaji Ibrahim Husseini Faila, emphasized during a site handover ceremony that the rehabilitation of this road was long overdue, reflecting community concerns about its deteriorating condition. The project is designed to significantly reduce travel times and improve overall accessibility for the residents of the municipality.

The upgrades are likely to have broader implications for the Greater Accra Region, particularly in terms of fostering economic activities and facilitating better connections between communities. Given the substantial investment in infrastructure, local stakeholders and residents are hopeful that the project will not only improve the road's condition but also enhance the quality of life for all who rely on it for daily commuting and transport needs.
