FG urges women to seize trade opportunities
The Nigerian Federal Government has called on women to take advantage of trade and entrepreneurship opportunities to enhance the economy, especially in light of International Women's Day.
In a powerful call to action during the commemoration of International Women's Day, the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole, urged women to embrace trade and entrepreneurship as means to contribute to the strengthening of the nation's economy. Oduwole emphasized that the occasion of International Women's Day, celebrated annually on March 8, serves as a platform to recognize women's achievements and advocate for their increased participation in various sectors.
Highlighting the theme for the 2026 International Womenβs Day, 'Give to Gain', Oduwole pointed out the vital role women can play in bolstering Nigeria's economy through active involvement in areas such as agribusiness, manufacturing, and export trade. She stressed the importance of equipping women with the necessary knowledge and resources to effectively engage with government policies and capitalize on emergent economic prospects that can lead to substantial growth.
The minister also informed women about the availability of grants, funding opportunities, and cooperative initiatives that can support their business endeavors. By urging women to explore these avenues, the government hopes to foster an environment where women's contributions to national development are not just recognized but also actively cultivated, thereby facilitating economic empowerment and a more inclusive growth framework in Nigeria.
